Get to Know French Designer Philippe Starck
French designer Philippe Starck has cultivated a sterling reputation for his many architectural, industrial, and interior design products that maintain a modern look but remain inventive and simple. His work has been featured in many places throughout the world like Tokyo and Spain as well as right here in South Florida where buildings like Icon Brickell in Miami make heavy use of his unique vision and creativity.
Philippe Starck's curiosity for design was first sparked in 1969 when he devised an inflatable structure that would prove to be the catalyst for his explorations in materiality. His designs would eventually bring him to the attention of fashion designer Pierre Cardin, who go on to hire him as his publishing house's artistic director. During this time, Starck would launch his industrial design company, appropriately called Starck Product and then renamed to Ubik. In 1983, Starck's work had generated enough attention and acclaim that he was asked to refurbish the rooms within the Élysée Palace in Paris, the French equivalent of the White House.
