Colorful Furniture Inspired By The Great Frank Gehry

With modern design impact almost every human endeavor, from construction to home décor, it is not unusual to see a lot of cross-pollination of ideas and influences across seemingly unrelated areas. One prominent example I am proud to feature is the Frank Gehry Color Cubes collection from renowned design firm Heller. Part of a spectacular group of Gehry-inspired Modern Design Furniture that include a bench, easy chair, and sofa, these unique and eye-catching pieces are sure to beautiful any modern space.

Among the most renowned and celebrated architects today, the Canadian-born, Los Angeles-based Gehry is known for this beloved legacy of iconic structures, ranging from the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao Spain, to the Disney Concern Hall in L.A. Each of these uniquely designed structures represents the architect’s signature and visionary deconstructivist style, a radical departure for once-unchallenged notions of universality of form and form following function. The end result are buildings – and now furniture – that are bold in shape, color, and design, yet somehow managing to remain functional, high quality, and honest in materials.

Such brilliance and sensibility translates well into Modern Design Furniture. Transcending the boundaries of design, these colorful twist cubes are odd and eye-catching in both their shape and audacity, yet nonetheless versatile in both their functionality – as set pieces, tables, or chairs – and their design flexibility (being suited for both indoor and outdoor use). Made of rotational-molded polyethylene, the cubes are tough against physical and climatic wear, and make for a playful addition to any room, bathroom, patio, living space, or office.

First created in 2004, Heller’s Frank Gehry Color Cubes remain as popular and sought-after as ever. Rumor has it than Alan Heller himself presented the idea to the architect, remarking that Gehry’s signature non-linear and unconventionally shaped buildings would be a first in modern design furniture. Sure enough, Gehry loved the idea, and so have design aficionados the world over – myself included.
