Sori Yanagi was a Japanese product designer. Born in 1915 in Tokyo, his father founded the mingei movement which celebrated Japanese folk crafts and the beauty of everyday objects. Sori entered Tokyo Art Academy in 1933, where he studied both art and architecture. After the war he designed many products including his two most famous pieces the Butterfly Stool and the Elephant stool in 1954 which are still produced by Vitra today.
