Modern sofas are much more than just a frequent living room focal point providing comfortable seating. Whether it’s a small apartment or a larger home, sofas are one of the largest furniture investments you’ll make.
With the vast array of styles, colors, and shapes to choose from, you’ll need to carefully evaluate what function your sofa will serve. You can find a modern sofa that serves as a welcoming spot to relax and prop up your feet, a sofa designed to add a touch of contemporary décor to a space, or even an eye-catching sleeper sofa that can turn any room into a guest room.
Size and dimensions are critical when choosing a sofa. Don't forget to take into consideration the width of your door frame, hallway and staircase. If you are not positive the sofa will fit you are better off ordering a sectional sofa such as the Canyon sofa by Bensen which comes in an array of different size options. These individual pieces can be locked together once placed in the room.
Make sure to measure the height between the floor and any art you may have on the wall, any end table height plus the height of whatever coffee table may be next to. There should be at least a foot or so between the top of the sofa and the bottom of your wall art. If you’re considering a modern sofa bed, make sure there is sufficient space in between the coffee table and the sleeper so that there is no need to move the furniture should the bed be pulled out. As a general rule of thumb, sofa cushions should be about an inch or two higher than your coffee table.
