Son of an architect Vico Magistretti was an Italian industrial designer and architect. He graduated from Politecnico di Milano in 1945 and worked at his father's firm. He initially worked in urban design in Milan but moved to mass-produced furniture and lighting by 1950. Throughout the years his work has been shown in the most important museums in Europe, USA and Japan. He was also the recipient of the 1951 Triennale and two Compasso d'Oro awards in 1967 and 1979. Some of his most famous products are still in production today. The Eclisse lamp by Artemide and Atollo lamp by Oluce.
