Ever want to learn how to make jewelry? How about what constitutes a small metal? If so, today is a great day. Jesse Browder, owner and founder of CA Modern Home, will be teaching a new course at FIU in fall 2015. The course, offered by the Art History Department, will feature an introduction into the technical and visionary concepts of jewelry and metalsmithing. The idea is to introduce students to the range and limitations of metal manipulation from design to construction. Covering the basics of making jewelry and metalsmithing techniques, the class will focus especially on sawing, piercing, soldering, basic stone setting, forming and finishing. Additionally students will investigate the multiple design concepts of various types of decoration and metalsmithing available.

Earning his Masters of Industrial Design in 2002 from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Jesse Brody a designer and educator, is highly experienced in industrial design and metal fabrication. He also has his MFA from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University and a BA from the University of South Carolina. Known for taking simple raw materials and turning them into magnificent works of art, students who take this course are bound to gain some wonderful new skills.
