Today we’re moving back to Italy and placing the spotlight on Ferruccio Laviani, yet another one of the names that have contributed to the modern design furniture and also happens to be from Italy. His work began to gain national prominence in the early 1990s after parting ways with the Memphis Group and today he is an artistic director and consultant for Italian company Kartell.
Ferruccio Laviani was born in the northern Italy city of Cremona. He studied at the International Professional Institute for the Arts and Violin Making, graduating 1978. He continued his studies enrolling at the Politecnico di Milan’s School of Architecture and the Scuola Politecnica di Design, graduating from both in the 1980s.
During the 1980s Laviani would also begin working for famous product and furniture designer Michele De Lucchi, well known for being part of the Memphis Group collective. Laviani would become a partner at Studio De Lucchi from 1986 to 1991 when he left to open his own Milan-based studio.
Some of the Ferruccio Laviani products featured in our store include the Bloom Lamps, the Bourgie Table Lamp, the eye-catching Taj Mini, and the Four Table available in laminate and aluminum. To see more of his work, click here.
