USAÂ (1907 -1993):
Alexander Girard (1907-1993, United States) was an architect and textile designer who had a profound impact on mid-20th-century design. After graduating from the Royal School of Architecture (Rome) and working in Florence and New York, Girard became the founding director of Herman Miller's textile division in 1952. Girard's love of international folk art greatly influenced his work, and his designs became well-known for their colorful abstract and geometric forms. In 1978, he donated his collection of over 100,000 objects to the Museum of International Folk Art (New Mexico).
