Outside Origins

The design for the Eames Aluminum Group was originally commissioned in 1957 as outdoor seating for the Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard-designed home of industrialist J. Irwin Miller. We introduced them as indoor chairs in 1958, returning them to their origins as outdoor seating years later.
