Eero Saarinen was classically trained in sculpture and architecture. His collaboration with Charles Eames in 1937 led to the creation of the Organic Chair, made from plywood, foam and rubber. The Organic chair was the very first three-dimensionally shaped bucket armchair and with this theme in mind, Saarinen developed icons such as The Womb Chair and Ottoman and the Tulip Arm Chairs. The Saarinen table collection is by far, one of his most celebrated designs. Eero Saarinen sought the essential idea and reduced it to the most effective structural solution within an overall unity of design. He claims "I wanted to clear up the slum of legs" found on most dining sets. So Saarinen designed the pedestal collection which each object features a simple pedestal made out of heavy molded cast aluminum. Saarnen's pedestal collection which is also known as the "tulip" collection comprises of a Dining Table, Side Table, Coffee Table, Side Chair, Arm Chair and Stool.

Bases of the Saarinen Dining Tables are available in White, Black or Platinum.  Made from a heavy molded cast aluminum that has been strapped polished. Black and white bases are coated in a tough, abrasion-resistant Rilsan finish. Platinum bases consist of a highly resilient polyurethane enamel wet coat with a clear satin finish.

Carrara Marble: Carrara marble features a white background with grey veining. The coated marble version features a transparent polyester coating that creates a non-porous surface to prevent use-associated stains. Coating may age over time. Carrara also comes in a natural marble version which features a penetrating sealer to protect the stone from aging and staining. The sealer must be renewed over time.

Emperador Dark Marble: Emperador Dark features a dark brown background with light brown and white veining. The coated marble version features a transparent polyester coating that creates a non-porous surface to prevent use-associated stains. Coating may age over time. Emperador Dark also comes in a natural marble version which features a penetrating sealer to protect the stone from aging and staining. The sealer must be renewed over time.

Empire Beige Marble: Empire Beige features a medium brown/gold background with heavy amounts of white veining. The coated marble version features a transparent polyester coating that creates a non-porous surface to prevent use-associated stains. Coating may age over time. Empire Beige is also available in a satin marble finish.

Nero Marquina Marble: Nero Marquina marble features a rich black background with random veins which can vary from white to gold. Available in both coated or satin coated finishes, the coated marble version features a transparent polyester coating that creates a non-porous surface to prevent use-associated stains. Coating may age over time.

Arabescato Marble: Arabescato Marble is a popular choice for Knoll's Saarinen tables. It features a Ivory White background with dark grey veining. Sometimes it can contain random green veins. Also available in a satin finish, coated marble version features a transparent polyester coating that creates a non-porous surface to prevent use-associated stains. Coating may age over time.

Calacatta Marble: Calacatta Marble features a Ivory White background with strong golden veins. Calacatta Marble can also display additional veining that varies in color from cream to green and grey. Available in a satin or coated finish which features a transparent polyester coating that creates a non-porous surface to prevent use-associated stains. Coating may age over time. Calacatta also comes in a natural marble version which features a penetrating sealer to protect the stone from aging and staining. The sealer must be renewed over time.

White Extra Marble: White Extra features light pearl white with grey shading and random pale to dark grey markings. Knoll's White Extra Marble can sometimes contain small inclusions of dark grey or black. Available in coated marble which features a transparent polyester coating that creates a non-porous surface to prevent use-associated stains. Coating may age over time.

Verdi Alpi Marble: Verdi Alpi is an black marble that features vibrant green and white veining. Hues vary in tone and intensity. It's available in satin and coated options which feature a transparent polyester coating that creates a non-porous surface to prevent use-associated stains. Coating may age over time.

Black Andes Granite: Black Andes is a black granite with reflective mica crystallines. It's a natural granite, featuring a penetrating sealer to protect the stone from aging and staining. The sealer must be renewed periodically. Granite has a non-porous density and does not require a protective polyester coating.

Wood Veneer's: Saarinen tables are also available in 7 different wood veneer options. The wooden tops are constructed using a high quality veneer that's wrapped on Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). Available in Ebonized Oak, Light Oak, Light Walnut, Pearwood, Reff Dark Cherry, Rosewood and Teak.
