Design Bodil Kjaer, 1959
Solid oiled teak wood
Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son
The BK11 lounge chair was designed in 1959 by Danish architect Bodil Kjær as part of her architecturally inspired Indoor-Outdoor Series. With a linear form influenced by Cubism, the chair’s solid teak construction is designed to patinate beautifully with age and use. The result of expert craftsmanship, the chair’s design has an inclined seat and back, with armrests, legs and runners that are mortised together to form two squares. It can be supplied with slender, supportive cushions made from weather-resistant Sunbrella fabric for additional comfort.
For Bodil Kjær, designing has always involved a dialogue with architecture, and her work has always been created for humans. She has worked to create harmony between design and architecture - an ambition that, in 1959, resulted in an elegant outdoor furniture series characterized by such high functional and aesthetic qualities, that it was also suitable for indoor use. The furniture has a clear identity, an evident simplicity, and is based on high-quality materials and superior craftsmanship.
Dimensions: 27.8" W x 28.5" D x 29.9" H | Seat: 15.7" H | Arms: 25.6" h
