    Wegner Ox Chair

    View All Fredericia

    Wegner Ox Chair

    Design Hans Wegner, 1960
    Made in Denmark by Erik Jorgensen

    Hans J. Wegner's Ox lounge chair is one of the Danish designer's most iconic creations. Designed in 1960, the Wegner Ox lounge chair once challenged the notion of Danish design with its masculine form: the rugged shapes and exaggerated proportions of the chair differed considerably from the simple and understated lines typical of Scandinavian design at the time. The most striking feature of the design is the headrest that resembles the horns of an ox – this is where the chair's name stems from.

    During his career, Hans J. Wegner designed a whopping 500 chair models, and Ox is reported to be one of his personal favourites and a design that he also included in his own home. The lounge chair's voluminous form presents a challenge for the manufacturer, as the chair needs to be upholstered by hand, with the task requiring not only precision but also physical strength. It takes a whole day to make one single chair. Previously, the Wegner Ox lounge chair has been manufactured by A.P. Stolen and Erik Jørgensen, but since 2021, it has been part of Fredericia's collection.

    Material: Molded polyurethane foam, wood, brushed chromed steel

    Dimensions: 36.2" h x 39" w x 39" d || Seat height: 14.2"
