    Bovist

*****USUALLY SHIPS IN 8-12 WEEKS *****

    Design Hella Jongerius, 2005
Fabric cover (70% viscous, 30% linen), polystyrene beads
    Made in Germany by Vitra

Bovist is a decorative floor cushion, stool, and ottoman all in one. Its compact, round shape is reminiscent of a puffball (Bovist in German). It offers a high degree of seating comfort and stability with a filling of small plastic balls. Large sections of embroidery give the cover, which consists of different colored fabrics, a particular charm and there is a knitted thread handle for moving Bovist to different places in the home.

Hella Jongerius developed several motifs that are full of innuendo and ironic allusions. The first motif, called Lacemaker, shows the head of a girl engrossed in embroidery and is borrowed from a painting by the Dutch master Vermeer van Delft. The portrait is surrounded by a freely formed, looped pattern. The second motif, Pottery, consists of an arrangement of ancient-looking pitchers with little embroidered hearts rising up between them like bubbles. Jongerious uses various stitching styles and different coloured threads for the embroidery, which is realized with the aid of a computer-controlled machine. It gives the images additional charm.

Pottery colors: dark grey, light blue & blue
Dove colors: brown, green & blue

    Dimensions: 21.25" dia. | 15" h
