Design Foster + Partners, 2006 Thermal treated aluminum Made in USA by Emeco
"A Foster building and an Emeco chair are both modern in character, yet demonstrate a great respect for the past." -Gregg Buchbinder
The goal; a simple all-aluminum chair that had to stack 10 high, be made of recycled aluminum, super strong, fire proof, light weight, and of course, comfortable. Not so simple.
These requirments gave way to the new 20-06 chair. A sleek new chair featuring an ultra-slim, all-aluminum frame, tempered for strength and hand made at the historic Hanover Pennsylvania factory using Emeco's proprietary "77 step process". The ergonomically shaped alumninum seat and back are hand welded, resulting in a minimal, seamless appearance. 20-06 is super strong, yet uses 15% less aluminum than the original Navy chair. Of that metal, 80% is recycled aluminum, qualifying it as an environmentally sound product. The lightweight chair will stack 10 high.
The DNA of Emeco's first chair, 10-06, runs through 20-06, but this new chair belongs to the new century.
An international studio for architecture, planning and design, Foster and Partners was established in 1967 and is led by Lord Foster. The practice has project offices world-wide with its headquarters in London. The practice's work ranges in scale from the largest construction project on the planet, Beijing International airport to its smallest commission, a range of door furniture.
