Design George Nelson, 1952
Steel skeleton, self-webbing soft plastic, brushed metal base
Made in USA by Herman Miller
Part of the Nelson Bubble Lamp series, the Nelson Cigar Lotus Floor Lamp has an elongated sphere shape. Clean parallel lines in its understructure further accentuate this shape. Affixed to a steel lamp stand, with or without walnut cover, it illuminates any room with a soft, warm glow. George Nelson designed the series in 1952. He was inspired by a set of silk-covered Swedish hanging lamps.
Use with up to 150 watt bulb. Light bulb not included.
The Cigar Lotus Floor Lamp brings this classic George Nelson design to a floor setting. With an elongated sphere lampshade and a stable steel base, the Nelson Cigar Lotus Floor Lamp brings a sculptural presence to any interior. It is available in three sizes and comes with a 9-foot plug-in cord. George Nelson first designed the Bubble Lamps in 1952, when he came across a Swedish hanging lamp that he wanted to acquire for his office. He was challenged by the expensive price and decided to make his own. The result was a series of elemental, spherical shapes like a rounded apple, a wide saucer, an elongated cigar, and a shapely pear, among others.
The George Nelson Bubble Lamp® collection is featured in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Herman Miller is the official site for the George Nelson Bubble Lamp® Collection.
