Designer: Alexander Girard
Colorful and charming, the Color Wheel Ottoman exemplifies the vibrant work of Alexander Girard. One of the first archival reissues of Girard’s sole furniture line for Herman Miller, it enlivens home and working spaces as a footrest, coffee table, an extra seat, or conversation starter. Featuring distinctive polished aluminum legs and an array of upholstery options, it is as useful and unique as it was when it debuted in 1967.
Of the Girard Group, which was in production for only one year, Girard wrote: “My group of furniture designs resemble the chameleon: its character remains intact yet its skin texture and color change to suit the environment.” Adaptability was important because Girard noted that, “Offices are more homelike—they are more inviting and less sterile. Homes are more efficient and less cluttered—more like offices.” His Color Wheel Ottoman addresses this shift with aplomb. Compact and versatile, it is a useful surface for a variety of spaces. Bold and lively, its dual-density foam cushion adds color to any space through an array of vibrant upholstery options.
The Color Wheel Ottoman may be covered in Multicolored Bright—a version of Jacobs Coat, the cheerful and sleek pattern of stripes Girard designed in 1959.
Upholstery options also include a playful arrangement of coordinated colors in four palettes of Hallingdal by Kvadrat for Maharam: Light Blue, Dark Blue, Red, or Orange.
Dimensions: 15" H x 36" W x 36" D
