    Nelson Lantern Bubble Pendant

***** USUALLY SHIPS IN 20-30 business days *****

    Design George Nelson, 1952
Steel skeleton, self-webbing soft plastic, nickel-plated ceiling plate
    Made by Herman Miller

The Nelson Lantern Bubble Pendant's (1952) ribbed lampshade may resemble a delicate origami sculpture, but the technique Nelson used to create it was inspired by the process the Navy used to mothball defunct cargo ships post-World War II. Part of the Nelson Bubble Lamp series, this hanging Lantern Bubble Light comes with nickel-plated mounting hardware. Bulb (not included): LED, CFL, or incandescent; E26 base; 150W. UL Listed.
    • Provides soft, glowing light.
    • Translucent plastic polymer shade with visible steel infrastructure.
    • Organic shape.
    • Brushed, nickel-plated steel details.

    A Soft Radiance

The simple and elegant shape of a traditional lantern shade made contemporary, the Nelson Lantern Bubble Pendant delicately hangs overhead with the help of a 6-foot cord and ceiling plate. George Nelson designed the Bubble Lamps In 1952. He was inspired by a set of Swedish hanging lamps that were tediously crafted with a silk covering. The bigger challenge, however, was their expensive price. Nelson decided to make his own set, and arrived at an innovative process that replaced the silk shade with a translucent plastic material.

The George Nelson Bubble Lamp® collection is featured in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Herman Miller is the official site for the George Nelson Bubble Lamp® Collection.

    Dimensions: 10.5" h | 11" dia. | UL rated | 150 watt max
