    The Famous Eames Lounge Chair

While the modern design furniture movement has made many people famous thanks to their forward thinking designs, perhaps the most ubiquitous and widely known names are Charles and Ray Eames.  The husband and wife team are responsible for many pieces that have become household names, and one of these pieces is the iconic Eames Lounge Chair.

Unveiled in 1956 and the couple's first stab at designing for the high-end market, the Eames Lounge Chair was one of, if not the first piece that eschewed the whole “affordable mass produced” direction the couple had adopted in favor of a more luxurious product.  Comprised of a trio of curved plywood shells, the chair and its accompanying ottoman quickly became a must have item and one of Herman Miller's bestselling products.

The Eames Lounge Chair made its public debut on the NBC network's Arlene Francis Home show and, following a heavy Herman Miller advertising campaign, the chair would go on to become a household staple.  It is still sold to this day and has also been featured prominently in shows like Frasier and the animated FX show Archer.

Besides the Eames Lounge Chair, Charles and Ray Eames have also created numerous other pieces that have received acclaim including the Eames Elephant and the Eames Molded Armchair.

CA Modern Home is an authorized Herman Miller dealer and our extensive selection of modern home furniture includes respected brands and designers like Charles and Ray Eames and many others.  Call us at 1-800-605-1859 for any sales inquiries or more information.
