Italian designer and architect Alessandro Mendini’s work has been characterized by his expressive fusion of cultures depicted across various mediums including graphics, paintings, modern design furniture, books, and interiors. When he isn’t busy designing, Mendini also works as an instructor at the prestigious University of Milan and he serves as a member of the jury at various architecture competitions.
Born in 1931, Mendini obtained his architecture degree from from Politecnico di Milano in 1959 and trained with fellow Italian architect Marcello Nizzoli. In the 1970s he emerged as one of the most important figures in the emergence of Radical design. Mendini would go on to work on numerous projects including the Groninger Museum in The Netherlands, the Alessi residence in Omegna, Italy, and the Arosa Casino in Switzerland. The Groninger Museum has often been described as one of the most impressive postmodern buildings of the late 20th century.
