Today we’re looking at Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa. At least part of his design philosophy is focused on designing shapes to give form to values that people share and wish for tacitly. He has developed widespread acclaim for capturing these values and being able to outline that which is not easily worded or described. His work has lead him to work with brands and companies around the world in cities and countries like Switzerland, France, Spain, Germany, and more.
Fukasawa was born in 1956 in Yamanashi Prefecture. He developed his skills by studying at Tama Art University in Tokyo, considered to be one of the top art schools in all of Japan where he graduated in 1980. After overseeing American international design and consulting firm IDEO’s Tokyo-based office, Fukasawa would go on to establish Naoto Fukasawa Design. Fukasawa’s work has earned him numerous accolades including the American IDEA Gold Award, the 5th Oribe Award, and the Mainichi Design Award.
We currently sell four different modern design furniture products by Naoto Fukasawa at CA Modern Home including the Deja-Vu Chair, Table and Stools, and the Itis Table Lamp designed in 2006 for Artemide.
